A Surprise Book
Book Find Nugget
I found this book in a pile at the Eastern Sierra Book Festival. Originally published in 2001, it reminded me that our world is full of literary surprises.
The story follows Edgar, a half-Apache boy who miraculously survives after being run over by a mail truck. He is thrown into a brutal boarding school after spending time a a hospital where he had learned to type because he cannot write long-form with his hands.
A dysfunctional Mormon foster family eventually takes him in but his main goal is to find the mailman who accidentally ran over him to let the guy know that he did in fact, survive.
My little blurb here cannot do this book justice. This ingenious storytelling is a journey full of humor, disappointment, a boys quest to find a true home and forgiveness. The surprise ending made me weep with relief.
This book needs to be made into a movie as soon as possible.
That’s all I have to say about this.
